In a hard-fought, high-scoring affair, the Redwood Rangers varsity football team came up just short, losing a nail-biter to the Clovis North Broncos with a final score of 38-34. The home non-conference game on Friday night was a back-and-forth battle that kept fans on the edge of their seats until the very end.
Despite the loss, the Rangers' offense put on a stellar performance. Senior quarterback Jordan Arreola led the charge, showcasing a dominant performance through the air and on the ground. Arreola threw for 283 yards and three touchdowns, while also adding 40 rushing yards and a touchdown.
The ground game was also a force to be reckoned with, as senior Jimmie Burk gashed the Broncos' defense for 120 yards on 19 carries. Arreola and Burk combined for 160 rushing yards and a touchdown, proving to be a formidable duo.
The Rangers' receiving corps was also instrumental, with key catches from Zephaniah Sesay, Jairus Brooks, and Cash Lovenburg, who reeled in seven passes for 89 yards and a touchdown. On the defensive side of the ball, the team was led by senior Luke Sanchez and Michael White who combined for 12 total tackles.
While the loss is tough, the Rangers showed incredible resilience and a powerful offensive attack. With a record of 1-1, they'll look to bounce back in their next game on the road against Tulare Union. The team's next home game is September 12 against Tulare Western.
